New Approach to Nudism By the Young Naturists

Our new approach to nudism – We would like to announce some changes to our YNA members and followers. As you are probably well aware, we (Felicity Jones and Jordan) have been investing every waking moment of the day as well as every last penny we have in creating this wonderful nudist community of amazing people. After two and a half years, and with little support, we are proud of what we have been able to accomplish thus far.

We have been perceived as the black sheep of the nudist movement almost from day one and while there have been many people who have done whatever they could to squash our efforts, we are still here. We had hoped that the naturist movement as well as nudist businesses would welcome this new mainstream approach but we did underestimate just how un-evolved the movement was and still is.

A New Approach To Nudism at YNA

A New Approach To Nudism at YNA - Love, Freedom, Acceptance!

A New Approach To Nudism at YNA – Love, Freedom, Acceptance!

The core issues, that we are constantly faced with, are that nudist leaders and business owners:

  • Don’t understand how the internet works
  • Don’t believe in spending any money to attract new business
  • Are afraid of the “outsiders”
  • Are closed minded when it comes to innovation
  • Don’t take constructive criticism well
  • Can’t communicate effectively and don’t respond promptly
  • Are not open-minded enough for the current way people think
  • Are uncooperative and extremely secretive
  • Lack the skills and willingness to learn how to reach more people
  • Are not willing to actively support other businesses and collaborate

Since we simply can’t force people to change, we feel it is time for us to accept the facts. Till today, everything we have done was geared toward bringing more focus to everyone. We are sad that here, in the U.S., the main nudist organizations and businesses are not willing to truly listen and evolve the naturist movement. We will continue to work with nudist clubs and organizations, but we realize that it is not up to us to ensure their survival. There are reasons why organizations are not doing well and why clubs are seeing a diminishing number of members (especially younger ones). But we can’t force people to think long term, and we now realize that we should not even try.

So with that in mind, we have decided to do what is best for us: we will be scaling down our operation. Over the next few days / weeks we will begin to implement our new approach to nudism and YNA.

Here are some of the things you can expect to see happen:

Due to the overwhelming amount of general emails that we get, we will now be responding to the majority of them once a week. If something is urgent then please make note of that in the subject of the email. We will also be publishing content less frequently.

We will no longer be doing mostly pro-bono work for nudism related businesses. If you want us to help, then we ask that you place value on our time. Up to today, we have been spending our personal savings to drive out and speak with people. Most resorts and clubs still charged us day fees even though we were there to help them. We also have done work for people / businesses at no charge.

With that said, we will continue to offer many services at very affordable rates. The benefit of working with us is that YNA knows this niche market and we already have a substantial following and presence. As outlined on our website, we can offer help and consultation services in the following areas – website optimization, design, online marketing, social networking, blog marketing, niche marketing and outreach, event creation and promotion. We even can optimize pay per click campaigns (for Google) so that businesses will end up paying far less per click while achieving a higher ad placement. And the list goes on and on.

While our rates are a fraction of what it would cost in “outside world,” we still need to be able to make something. So we ask that you be understanding and respectful of our needs, if you do choose to work with us.

We have been getting a tremendous amount of emails mostly from the U.S., Canada, Australia and England. People really want to YNA to do things in their area. This has previously been achieved by creating chapters in different areas. Chapter leaders were responsible for blogging, organizing events regularly and maintaining various social media. The idea was actually to create self-sustaining groups that could generate their own funds and provide a source of income for whoever was in charge.

It was a lot of work, and it proved to be too much for those leaders. Aside from NY / NJ, we haven’t found people who are able and / or willing to invest the time and energy needed to cultivate a substantial following.

So, we are creating a second tier – the “YNA associate group.” The groups will be made up of one main individual who will be the group’s manager. This person will be in charge of assuming any and all responsibility for that group. While the group will receive support from YNA, the requirements will not be as demanding as they were for the chapters. The groups will basically be as active or inactive as the leader wants it to be. If people in the group want more, then it will be up to them to make their voices heard or even to take over and / or assist in the management of that said group.

Nudist Groups are expected to abide by and enforce the regulations and manner of conduct both online and offline.

Nudist Groups will receive support from YNA in the following ways:

  • Access to the YNA website for publishing content – this is key to broadening the exposure of any group.
  • Access to the YNA email newsletters – To inform people of what they are doing.
  • YNA will use our social networks to launch the group – we will add people that we know from that area and announce the formation of the new group online.

Nudist Groups are expected to:

  • Behave according to the manner of conduct that is outlined on the YNA website
  • Respond to YNA when we contact them
  • Inform YNA immediately of any issues that arise
  • Remove any people who misbehave

We will soon begin to close down many of our other chapters, but that does not mean that we are no longer present. It just means that we are not responsible for creating the actual community nor will we be actively and aggressively seeking to develop the group’s membership and following. That is up to each and every group to decide.

Please note that YNA is a structured movement. We do have checks and balances and people can’t just do whatever they wish whenever they feel like it. The most valuable asset we have is our reputation, and that is something we are not and will not be willing to jeopardize. We have no issue with closing down any group at any time or revoking any of the privileges if we feel that it is necessary.

We will be implementing these changes in the near future, but will continue to do as much as we can to grow our YNA movement and to make a positive impact on naturism.

As always we welcome your thoughts in the comments section below.

    The Nudist The Next Generation
I sit here late at night perplexed, I am very concerned at the apparent lack on understanding and support from the various naturist establishments for the valiant efforts that are being made by the youth of today to expand the horizons of awareness regarding nudity and naturism.
Lets face hard cold facts, It was the admirable determination and perseverance of nudist in the past that got us where we are today. With their determination, they were able to establish naturist facilities and organizations which are the building foundations that future generations should build from. No one wants to re invent the wheel here, I do however see many insightful youths reaching out to promote and build upon this solid foundation, only to be thwarted in their efforts.
The Naturist from days gone by are aging and retiring, sorry but true and hence just here in Canada we have seen nudist clubs and the property being sold and many closures have been the result. The good news is we still have a few well established resorts that continue to thrive and hopefully they will be here for many years to come.
I myself am no longer a spring chicken myself but what I do see and know that the future of Naturism lies on the shoulders of the youth of today and every effort should be made to help, support and nurture them as our own.
Young Naturists America (aka) YNA just recently posted a blog expressing obvious frustration with various organizations, clubs, establishments ect.  and listed the following as just a few of the core issues that they are facing and encountering from nudist leaders and business owners:
    That we
Don’t understand how the internet works
Don’t believe in spending any money to attract new business
     Are afraid of the “outsiders”
Are closed minded when it comes to innovation
    Don’t take constructive criticism well
Can’t communicate effectively and don’t respond promptly
Are not open-minded enough for the current way people think
     Are uncooperative and extremely secretive
Lack the skills and willingness to learn how to reach more people
Are not willing to actively support other businesses and collaborate
I couldn’t agree more with their concerns, we as naturist are suppose to hold certain values and one of them is that we are very non judgemental people. Does this value of ours stop at body acceptance or in my opinion does it also extend itself to innovative and creative ideas. I certainly take offence to the fact that this group refers to themselves as being seen as the black sheep of our family.
I have seen these unhealthy issues rear their ugly head time and time again, Organizations scrambling at the last minutes before board meetings to find individuals to fill seats on their perspective boards and not finding any willing participants. This is because these intellectual people can see that it’s just an “old boys club”| which will not be open to any new and innovative ideas. These group have a tendency to shun the very people whom have brilliant ideas and suggestion and in all reality it will be any groups undoing when these cliché are formed with no room for the so called outsider.
The challenge here is we need to encourage and be supportive of groups such as the YNA to help us promote and continue to encourage naturism for what it is and can be to EVERYONE. More of these groups are needed or we will be become an extinct ideal. Lets bring back that youthful outlook we all once had and start supporting these brilliant youths.
    Naturally and Respectfully

  • Your are so very right about the “established” oldtimer nudist organisations. They are “AFRAID of anything new thinking everything was better in the past. It is NOT a US fenomena only. Around the globe you hear about shrinking clubs and organisations. With a very few exceptions. I was in Prague last year an visited one of their 5 tims/year big event with about 800 people. And another montly with about 3-400 pople. It was young, old, families, singles, and couples. They worked HARD and made it. It was a fantastic, fun and MODERN. Oldertimers dont understand the “new way of living” for young people in general and therefore cant attract them. I even heard the chairman of a club I was member of saying “She shall NOT work with “free groups” outside the INF-umbrella. Old club and national/international management dont understand that young people find information on the internet and also organise themself differently (more eventish style) than in the old days. Another thing is that there are more and more pure nudist bussines that organise things you dont need to be a member of to utilize. Impossible to change the oldies? I wouls say yes? I think you are on the right path. Break away and create someting new. In Denmark they have done it with a new florishing group of over 1000 members and the old organisation was and is still shrinking. I think the main “target group” is for a new movement is young people and young families that are not yet into but interested in nudism. You can still keep the old values of nudism… What we need would be an approach/slogan = “Modern family nudism with traditional values”. That “slogan” tells you that is för modern people/families and also that it is a modern nudism. We are a few working on setting that up in the Black Sea/Balkan area with the traget on young people and “young” families. A Nudetopia. Working from scratch in an area where there is practicily no nudist organisation any more. But fantactic beaches and landscapes. And cheap leaving and land/properties. Being there last summer we found one abandone small camping/resort after the other. Yan.

  • nudenor

I read the “core issues” and was dismayed at the lack of cooperation and understanding from the main organization’s leaders (from what YNA is saying). From this and after reading another editorial on the other side, I am now concerned about the future of organized nudism, of which YNA is a critical part of. I hope the leaders and members can work for stability of each other. As a member, I am more than willing to listen and try to understand YNA’s needs.

    • jblumyna

Thank you for the comment. The core issues stated are just a few of the many that we have been facing. Unfortunately, the nudist world has many overgrown egos and very little action. They all know what we think and how we feel but they have been doing more to hinder our efforts rather than support them.

      • @jblumyna
As a longtime nudist friend of mine said even like 10-15 years ago. “There are to many cheifs and to few indians in the nudism movments”. And all they decide is rules what you CANT do.

  • Rod Nixon

as I mentioned on your blog, as a member of the main organization, I hope we can be willing to listen and understand YNA. The future of nudism basically rests on you guys (and gals). I think both groups have different perspectives and objectives, but that shouldn’t cause such alienation of YNA from the rest of us.

  • FFNR

Falicity and Jordon, Our hearts go out to you both for the frustration that I am sure you are encountering. I personnally share at times in your frustration, with the lack of support and encouragement that the old order of Naturism does not show. The powers that be within these organizations need to stand back and start to look at these honourable intentions of the youth of today. They need to think back when they were young and how they once had these same ambitions and would move mountains to support a lifestyle that they truely loved.
As a new owner who resently purchased land and opened another facility here in Canada (due to the continued closures of places that peole can be free to live a life free of clothing), I have found that no interest or support has been forthcoming from these organizations that we become members of for a reason. I feel that in part that we are dealing with a settled group of individuals whom have lost there own personal drive and egarness to support the community at large. These organiztions need to get more younger particpants whom can assist them greatly in moving them into the present time.
It is peolpe such as yourselves (the Youth of today) that will continue to move us forward in the years to come. You are appreciated for your ongoing efforts and please do not give up hope and continue to do what you can to support those of us that do appreciate what you are doing. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

I wish you the very best! I’m not much of a resort naturist, more of a desert and mountains naturist. Someday I hope people will be able to wander the forests and deserts free and natural.

  • Maurice W. Smith

I am both saddened and gladened by this disheartening news. I am sadden because of the state of affairs that have forced you to make these changes. I am gladdened because the path to creating a group and/or chapter isn’t quite as demanding.

  • StuartRyals

Sorry to hear that you have not had the social/emotional support or economic response from the established nudist community that your intelligent, reasoned and cheerful efforts have deserved, I am one of the “old” community members (over 60), yet have found, the blog, guest blogs, links, articles, opinions and philisophical emphasis to be refreshing, principled, and always downright fun! Just what this often stodgy community needs. I happen to be one of those older folks who are disabled and on limited income who lives in a part of the country where naturism is often seen as at least a bizzarr if not down right evil activity, rather than the wholesome, natural simple human activity that it actually is. Thus the opportunities for me to practice this lifestyle are limited to inside my home (sigh) or the annual outing. This website has become my main source of information and connection with the naturist world, so I am thankful that you will persevere and a little sad that you are hard pressed and will need to pull back some. Best of luck always!

    • jblumyna

Thank you :) It is people like you that have kept us going for so long!! Lots of love !!!

  • All-Nudist

Well THAT sucks. Along with the various reasons you mentioned that you feel have inhibited your growth among mainstream nudists, you forgot one important factor; nudists/naturists are notoriously cheap.
Aside from the fact that most are not using the internet to discover new things about our lifestyle/community, few are willing to invest time or money for the cause unless it’s directly related to them. Even then, it’s a minority that actually does anything while the rest stand around criticizing what they’re doing!
That and the fact that, unlike those who travel and spend their vacations at resorts, most of us don’t have a lot to spare! Your market especially is at the low end of the financial scale and under-funding has taken the wind out of the sails of more than one good cause.
It’s a shame that your enthusiasm and tech savvy were not taken advantage of by the ‘establishment’ which is so deplorably behind the times. No doubt some will use this occasion to say that such expertise sure didn’t help YNA, but they would be wrong. THAT is what has helped you accomplish so much so fast!
Perhaps you did attempt too much too fast and overestimated the assistance and support you would receive; you wouldn’t be the first. Even bloggers, with little or no investment have a history of lasting only a short time. Starting with the best of intentions, they often run into a wall of apathy and even hostility from those who would rule. It truly can be depressing trying to light fires under wet blankets!
We wish you the best in your new direction and All-Nudist will continue to support your efforts whenever we can! Of course, there’s the flip side to that too… ;-)

    • jblumyna

Hey – You know us… its all about the love! As always, you can count on our support and 100% honest feedback!
I dont think we grew too fast, I think we just dont have the thick skins that are needed to survive in this current nudist world. So much hate, bitterness, self promotion, egos, lies and down right rudeness … I dealt with much less in the political world!

      • All-Nudist

At least in politics you expect to have to watch your back! Then again, politics is politics, clothed or not…
