Felicity Spends A Top Free Afternoon with the Outdoor Co-Ed Topless Pulp Fiction Group!

Yesterday I met up with the Outdoor Co-Ed Topless Pulp Fiction Appreciation Society! Or the OCTPFAS!

No I’m kidding, but I think Outdoor Co-Ed Topless Pulp Fiction Group needs an acronym :)

Anyway I met a few of the group at Central Park so we could sunbathe top free in the grass and enjoy the unusually warm October day with baked goods and pulp fiction novels.

We settled in the middle of Sheep Meadow. And it was great hanging out with such friendly, like-minded people! However, not long after we sat down, a police officer came over to ask us to put our tops back on. She told us there were complaints from people with their kids around, and our response was informing her that this was legal.

(As an aside, I really hate how this is always the excuse, when we all know that in fact kids don’t care, until they are taught that it’s not okay. Parents / people / society teach children that breasts are inappropriate, shameful and unnatural to fully expose in any context but a sexual one. Do we say to dudes, cover up- there are children around? Case in point.)

Bonus: We got invited to a sing-along with this dude on a guitar and his group, and so ended the day with Heart and Beatles songs.

We were fresh news on Gothamist!

Paul, I'm sick of it too! It's really frustrating to be hassled by cops when doing something legal, and frankly it is a little sad when they don't know the laws they are supposed to be enforcing. After this second incident I'd also recommend to any women who want to go topfree to carry around a copy of that document.

After that first cop came over I said the same thing- that her response to the complainers should've been, 'Well it's legal and they're not doing anything wrong so there's nothing I can do.'

At least we managed to educate a few more officers that day! I hope the result will be fewer instances like this.

Well done, all of you! But I'm sick of police that don't uphold the law, don't know it, do break it, or worse. Although the NYPD is not *full* of that type, it has far too many of them. More than one is too many.

Because whoever radioed HQ could have landed an ignorant or vindictive police personage who would say "Arrest them all!" I recommend carrying a copy of the court decision of July 7, 1992. When they approach you, show them the document. If they try to arrest you, explain in a pleasant way the consequences to them of their knowingly, wilfully, or maliciously breaking the law they are supposed to uphold. Or tell them to go educate the complainers, that interfering with your rights is equally wrong.
