Dan of YNA KC Reviews His Stay At Show Me Acres

A review of Show Me Acres Nudist Resort:

*UPDATE January 2017*: According to their website, this resort is now closed until further notice because the owners are retiring. (Hopefully they will be selling the place to nudists who can continue operating the place as a nudist resort!)

Show Me Acres Nudist Resort: My lovely woman and I recently visited the majestic (relative term) Show Me Acres nudist resort in Missouri. The resort is situated near the Lake of the Ozarks – a large man-made reservoir and Missouri’s biggest state park. We ventured out by ourselves with no expectations, reservations or plans. We called ahead, of course, to be certain that there were camping plots available. We had decided to stay for the Labor Day weekend, Saturday through Monday.

We made the 2 hour journey from Kansas City on a Saturday, about midday, and arrived later than we intended. But to that, I say, we were in no rush to begin with. Upon arriving at the rod iron front gate, we were greeted by two large concrete lions…interesting. The gate was manual, and as we followed another couple through, being the last car, we had to get out to secure the gate. Not an issue in my book.

Upon entering the resort, we were granted views of nothing more than trees, a gravel path and a nice welcoming sign. It was a decent drive, through the woods, down the hill and into the opening which would hold the center of the grounds.

A nice large house with a huge beautiful lawn backed up to a rather large pool, hot tub, sun deck set up that was built next to the HUGE clubhouse. We parked and of course, right off, I was naked. My lady, again, keeping clothed. (She’ll get there!) We walked to the clubhouse, past couples already chatting and bathing nude in the sun, where we entered and registered. Another quick process and rather escalated fees (not outrageous but higher than we would have liked).

Show Me Acres Nudist Resort

Once welcomes and small chit chat was observed, we left to find our campground on this 130 acre piece of land. Nestled back in the trees, at the end of a car wide path, next to a stream, we set up camp. My lady left her past behind, along with her clothes. We grabbed our cooler and headed back to the pool.

We were not greeted nor talked to at first. The group there seemed to have a bit of apprehension toward us, so we found a spot in the corner and proceeded to get comfy. We were going to enjoy ourselves no matter what others thought.

After a while, we were approached by a few people and talked a bit and enjoyed a little bit of “get to know ya” chit chat. Eventually we found ourselves in the pool playing volleyball with 12 other people. It was fun!
In the evening, they hosted a pot luck, of which we knew about beforehand, and a chili cook off! We all ate and had good conversation and laughs and of course returned to the pool.

The night wore on and we found ourselves in the hot tub, in the pool, in the hot tub, etc. The bad experience was the horse flies! Holy elephant trunks! Those things were huge! Possibly contaminated by some sort of primordial ooze!

Just kidding. But they were big!

The next day went pretty much the same, save for the cocktail contest in which we were judges. We met some nice couples and even one that lived out near us. All in all a good experience. We did feel a bit “nickel and dimed” but not overly.

Show Me Acres Hotel Room

Oh, I almost forgot, they also had hotel rooms. Like actual, real hotel rooms with the largest showers I’ve ever seen.

We would recommend a visit. It’s a bit far for our taste, but we will definitely be returning.

Prairie Haven is a bit closer, about 20 miles south of Topeka.  Has rooms and RV spots.  Pool, hot tub, frisbee golf, rc car dirt race track, etc.  Lake Edun is in the same area, but very rustic comparably (which can be good at times).  Edun is very scenic with a good sized lake.
