Mazo Nude Beach in Wisconsin Was My First Experience With Social Nudity

(Guest nudist blog)

These days, being naked is natural and enjoyable. But it did not always feel that way.

I have always been somewhat self conscious. The thought of being naked around one person, let alone a group, was absolutely terrifying. Little did I know, this fear of nudity would leave me even putting up a fight.

My first social nude experience was due to my love for traveling around the United States. During my travels, I was exposed to many friendly, talented people. I met all kinds of musicians, artists, travelers and hippies.

I began to travel with a band called John Denver’s Airplane from age nineteen to twenty. We started in Florida, and then traveled to Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York and Wisconsin. Madison, Wisconsin is a great little historic town, covered in red brick, where my story takes place.

After the band played their venue, some fans told us about a local beach called Mazo beach. It is located an hour northwest of Madison, on the Wisconsin River.

So we all packed up to go swimming, which was a perfect idea for a hot summer day.The trip north was short and we soon arrived at our destination – Mazo beach.

We arrived at Mazo beach and I quickly realized that this was no ordinary beach. It was in the middle of the wilderness. The beach was stunning with black, metallic looking pebbles scattered throughout the sand, on the beach and into the water.

Even more awe-inspiring than the scenery, was the complete lack of clothing… Everyone was naked! There were nude men and women all around me! Some were swimming and others were just sprawled out sunbathing naked. I felt my face grow red, as all of my friends began to disrobe.

I had a moment of panic that luckily did not last. I was fearful and shocked because I had never planned to see my friends nude. I thought about running but quickly realized that fleeing was a ridiculous idea. So I finally decided to play it cool. I began to undress slowly, starting with my outer garments and worked my way to my underwear. Then, like tearing off a band-aid, I stripped down and ran full speed toward the cover of water.

Once I gave into the experience, I was able to relax and enjoy myself. After a while, I actually felt my own personal body image issues begin to disappear. Today I am more accepting of my self as well as others and I have to thank Mazo Nude Beach and naturism / nudism for that!
