Rock Lodge Club Bungalow Centennial Day
August 13 @ 10:00 am - 10:00 pm
Bungalow Centennial Celebration at Rock Lodge Club
On Saturday, August 13, Rock Lodge Club will be having a 100th anniversary celebration of their bungalow building. Join YNA for a day trip there to partake in the festivities and enjoy the club!
Rock Lodge was one of the first nudist clubs founded in the U.S. in the early 1930’s. The bungalow was built around 1916 when it was still a training camp for boxers. It cost $12,000 to build and included a regulation squash / handball court, exercise room and two needle shower baths.
By the 1920’s, the club had become a “health farm.” Nudism was introduced in or before 1932. As a health farm, the club was in line with the early German nudist movement.
Today the bungalow is the central “clubhouse” building at Rock Lodge. It houses the communal kitchen, living room, recreation room (with a ping pong table, piano, library, etc) and overnight rooms.
The centennial celebration is a day-long event starting with an opening ceremony at 11am. There will be activities throughout the day “surrounding the health farm theme, prohibition and beyond.”
At 6pm they will “end with a dinner that includes a meal styled by trends and recipes from the 1916 era.” The once in a century menu boasts: baked ham, meatballs, duck, mussels, salmon, stuffed cabbage, Chinese dumplings, ravioli and an assortment of salads and vegetables! (Menu is subject to change.) There will also be Nathan’s hot dogs, which share the same centennial year as the Rock Lodge bungalow.
In addition to this event, we can enjoy the club’s beautiful spring-fed lake for swimming and sunbathing (and boating). They also have a hot tub, sauna, tennis courts, hiking trails and more.
Rates: YNA members over 35 get a discount on grounds fees. All young adults 18-34 get discounted rates. (See more info on the club’s website.)
The day’s activities are included in the grounds fees. However the 6pm dinner is an extra cost:
Children ages 6 – 11: $7
Children 5 and under: Free
Overnight stay: This is a day trip, but those interested in staying overnight can contact Rock Lodge directly for reserving a room or cabin. They do not have a campground.
Getting there: Rock Lodge is located in Stockholm, NJ. It’s about a 1-1.5 hour drive from NYC. Please contact us at ynaevents [at[ gmail .com if you can offer a ride from NYC!
Unfortunately it is difficult to get there via public transportation. If you want to try that route from NYC, you can take the 194 bus from Port Authority to Newfoundland. You’ll need to arrange for a local taxi to take you from the bus station to the club (about a 10-15 drive from Newfoundland).
