Upstate Nudie Getaway: Mohonk Preserve, Woodstock & Juniper Woods
Take a weekend trip to the woods of upstate New York with us this July! Join us for some skinny dipping, hiking in nature and camping at Juniper Woods Nudist Park.
On Saturday July 30, we will head to a lovely secret swimming hole at a stream in Woodstock, NY. After hanging out there, we may also visit a second nearby location on a river.
On Sunday, July 31st we will visit the pool at Stony Kill Falls as well as the Mohonk Preserve’s sanctioned skinny dipping area in New Paltz, NY.
Juniper Woods in Catskill, NY will be our home base for the weekend where we’ll camp out and enjoy the facilities. Juniper has a great outdoor pool, heated conversation pool, nature trails, ponds for fishing / boating, petanque courts and more.
They also have some of the most awesome members of any nudist camp!!!!

What to Bring: Towel, sunblock, bug repellant, and sneakers or good shoes. For Juniper, you will need a valid ID (and camping gear if you plan to camp). The Mohonk Preserve does not have a beach or sand. It’s all woods and bedrock, so you might consider bringing a soft mat or chair if you want to sit / lay comfortably in the sun.
Food: Bring lunch / food for the skinny dipping outings. Trash is carry in, carry out. Juniper also has a snackbar for simple, inexpensive breakfast and lunch. They offer eggs and breakfast sandwiches in the morning, and burgers / hot dogs and soft drinks for lunch (though we are planning to leave Juniper before lunchtime). For dinner Saturday night, we will have pizza delivered to Juniper (for 5 or $6 per person).
Cost: There are special rates for YNA members at Juniper Woods this weekend only. For non-members, the regular campground rates will apply.
Weekend visit — Friday (after 5pm) through Sunday: $45 for couples and $40 for singles. Includes camping.
Day visit (Friday, Saturday or Sunday) — $30 for couples and $25 for singles.
Day visit + 1 night camping — $35 for couples and $30 for singles.
There is an entry fee of $12 per person at the Mohonk Preserve. No fees for Woodstock.
YNA Membership: A membership is not required to attend this event, but it will get you the discounted rates for this weekend at Juniper Woods. Beyond the discounts, please support YNA and help us continue doing these events by becoming a member for $22 / year and / or by donating more than the $22 yearly fee.
Accommodations: Overnight camping is included in the special weekend rate for YNA at Juniper. See above for all rates with camping.
In addition to camping, Juniper does have some overnight rentals. Please call or contact them as soon as possible to reserve (they do sell out quickly): 518-945-1399 or firstname.lastname@example.org
We will do our best to help arrange carpooling to Juniper and these other destinations if possible. Please email us if you can offer a ride or need a ride – ynaevents [at] gmail .com. You can also post to the Facebook event wall about carpooling.
Juniper Woods is about a 2.5 hour drive from NYC. For public transportation, you can take an Amtrak train to the Hudson, NY station, which is about a 15 minute drive from Juniper. Juniper can send someone to pick you up from there, but you must arrange this WITH THEM in advance. It is best to call at least the day before your arrival. (Do not just call them when you reach the station and expect to be picked up!)
The Mohonk Preserve is about a 1h 45 minute drive from NYC and just under an hour’s drive from Juniper Woods. Stony Kill Falls is about 10 minutes away from Mohonk. We will be posting approximate meeting times for each place as we get closer to the event.
At the preserve, the closest parking lot to the clothing-optional section is at Coxing Trail Head. This is a small lot and fills up quickly on weekends, so it is best to get there early. (We might arrange a meeting point at a nearby commuter lot to carpool and make parking easier.)
The next best parking lot is at West Trapps Trailhead, which is a bit further. Directions to each parking lot are posted below (pulled from the MP website).
- Directions to Coxing Trailhead: Take the New Paltz exit 18 off of the NYS Thruway. Go 7 miles west (through New Paltz) on Route 299 to the end: make right on Route 44-55. The Preserve Visitor Center will be 1/2 mile on your right. Go 1.5 miles past the Visitor Center, turn right onto Clove Road, and then bear right at fork. After 1 mile, turn left into parking area.
- Directions to West Trapps Trailhead: Take the New Paltz exit 18 off of the NYS Thruway. Go 7 miles west (through New Paltz) on Route 299 to the end: make right on Route 44-55. The Preserve Visitor Center will be 1/2 mile on your right. Go 1.3 miles past the Visitor Center, and turn right into parking area.
Woodstock is a 40 minute drive from Juniper. This skinny dipping area is a secret, unknown location with very limited parking so we won’t be sharing directions online. At Juniper we will be condensing into as few cars as possible before we leave. If you are looking to meet us directly there, we can’t promise you a parking spot, but: email us.
