YNA End of Summer Beach Meetup at Gunnison
September 17, 2016 @ 10:30 am - 5:00 pmFree
YNA Meetup at Gunnison Beach, NJ
The summer is coming to an end (sadly). Time to do one last nude beach day at Gunnison! It’ll likely be quite a bit cooler than our last visits in June and July, but hopefully still warm enough. The ocean water is always warmer in September.
So come hang out at the nude beach with us on Saturday, September 17th!
Gunnison Nude Beach is a clothing optional beach located on the federally controlled Sandy Hook off of Route 36 in New Jersey. It’s a great place to meet thousands of fellow naturists and nudists of all ages. Play some volleyball, engage in body painting and other games or just lay out and catch some rays. We will set up our own YNA camp where people can come and hang out with the group.
When: Saturday, September 17, 10:30am – 5pm. (Rain date: Sunday, September 18th)
Gunnison Nude Beach Cost:
This event is free (including parking). But if you want to support these events and our work at YNA, then please become a member for $22 / year!
How to Find Us On The Beach:
WE HAVE A NEW, BIGGER FLAG! Once you get down to the beach area, look for the YNA flag pictured below and we will be there. If you can’t see it, look for the black pirate flags, and we will likely be close by.
What to Bring: Bring a towel, sunblock, lunch and water or something to keep you hydrated. An umbrella or sun shelter is also recommended for shade.
There are no vendors on The Gunnison Beach itself.
There is usually a vendor selling fast food by the entrance (which is a bit of a walk from the actual beach area). Food and drink, including alcohol, are allowed on the beach (No trash cans, so you take out what you bring in). We will have some snacks to share, and if people want to bring something to share with the group, that’s great too.
Please be advised that glass is strictly prohibited! Four-sided tents are also strictly prohibited this year.
Also note that it’s a bit of a walk – about 350 yards – on mostly loose sand from the entrance to the shoreline, so plan accordingly. If you’re bringing a lot of stuff you might want to get a beach cart with wide wheels.
Beach Rentals – for the past few weeks there has been a vendor table for umbrella and chair rentals at the Gunnison beach entrance! This is new for the 2016 season. We aren’t 100% sure they will still be there at this point in the season. The food truck vendor also usually has umbrellas for sale.
Getting To Gunnison Nude Beach:
Gunnison Nude Beach is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from New York City. If you need a ride or can offer a ride, send us an email so we can coordinate carpooling: ynaevents [at[ gmail .com.
Address for your GPS: There is no street address for Gunnison, but we do have an address that will get you to Sandy Hook: 1 Hartshome Drive, Highlands, New Jersey 07732. Once you reach Sandy Hook, you’ll be looking for parking lot “G.” You can also try using this intersection for your GPS: Atlantic Drive and Ford Road in Highlands, NJ.
For public transportation: The Seastreak Ferry will take you from NYC to Sandy Hook. A round-trip ferry ticket is $45, and at the 1st ferry of the day you can get a discounted round-trip price of $30. From there, a complimentary shuttle can take you from the ferry landing to Gunnison Beach. You will need to check the times to see when the shuttles stop running from the beach back to the ferry. Taxis are also available to take you to the beach.
Parking at Gunnison Nude Beach: This is after Labor Day, so parking is FREE. (It’s usually $15 / day.) Parking for the beach is at Lot G. Although the lot is quite large, it fills up fast, and it is difficult to find a spot after 11am on a nice weekend. (There are other parking areas, but you will have to walk somewhat to get from there to the beach). There is no separate fee to get on the beach, and carpooling is always a good idea.
Accessibility: Sandy Hook / Gunnison has beach wheelchairs with wide wheels that can be borrowed for the day. It’s helpful to reserve it in advance. Call the Sandy Hook Visitors Center for more information: (732) 872-5970. Otherwise all the entrance facilities are wheelchair-accessible.
