Clothing-Optional Art Opening at Three Four Three Four Gallery featuring Dan Allende
YNA has been invited to attend a clothing-optional art opening at a Brooklyn gallery! The exhibition is for an artist named Dan Allende, whose work features the naked human form. So come see naked art..naked. It’s clothing-optional, so there will be clothed people and naked people present.
The gallery has bathrooms for undressing, and there will be a place to store your clothes. (It’d be wise to bring a bag for them.) Privacy will be respected in regards to photography. Feel free to contact us with any questions.
More info about the artist and exhibition:
Three Four Three Four is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Dan Allende, entitled “Humans: The Secret Life of Martin Handford.” For “Humans,” Allende presents a new series of drawings in the illustrative style of Martin Handford. This body of work derives from Allende’s interests in utopian architecture, engineering, and the human anatomy. Allende imagines practical architectural innovations that include a “vagina sliding joint” and a “boob friction clamp”. He imagines a darker, naked interpretation of Martin Handford’s drawings by using the stripped-down human form as an architectural unit. Allende’s bodies twist and turn, working as strong, cohesive building blocks that evoke memories of Handford’s crowded scenes.
In 1986, Martin Handford was asked by his art director at Walker Books to draw a character with peculiar features so that his pictures of crowds had a focal point. After much thinking, he came up with the idea of “Wally”, a world traveller and time travel aficionado who always dresses in red and white. The Where’s Wally? books were published in the UK by Walker Books and in the US under the title Where’s Waldo? by Little, Brown and Company.
Dan Allende is a member of San Francisco art collective Futurefarmers, a group with a long history of collaborative artworks that engage social issues across disciplines. His work functions as a bridge linking diverse subjects through humor, play and creativity.
He has exhibited or performed at the Walter’s Art Museum, The Center Club, Mount Vernon Place Park, The Contemporary Museum, SZHK Bi-City Biennial 2009, 01SJ Biennial 2010, Transmodern Performance Festival, The Museum of Contemporary Art-Sydney, the Guggenheim, the Exploratorium, the Geffen Contemporary @MOCA, Santa Fe: Site, and the National Aviary.
“Humans: The Secret Life of Martin Handford” opens October 24th and closes November 8th. Three Four Three Four is a nomadic gallery founded by Nick Fusaro in 2013. The gallery is located on the fourth floor of 34 34th Street in Brooklyn, NY.
