Dick Pics Interview With Artist Soraya Doolbaz About Dicture Gallery & Dressing Up Funny Dick Pictures

Artistic and Funny Dick Pics by Soraya Doolbaz

Artistic Funny Dick Pics – I’ve talked about the dick pic phenomena before and speculated on why so many guys are sending pictures of their penises to lovers, friends and strangers on the Internet.

Dick pics try so hard to get our attention and be sexy, yet they are so often unwanted, poorly executed and anything but sexy. Now one artist is attempting to change the whole dickscape with her “Dicture” art.

Soraya Doolbaz photographs penises dressed up in tiny outfits. It’s sort of elegant and hilarious at the same time, and that’s the whole point.

Soraya came up with the idea while laughing over dick pics with her friends and says on her website, “I thought it would be funny to treat dick pics like a high fashion photo shoot…My goal with all this was to make people laugh.”

I was interested in Soraya’s unique art, so I reached out to her to discuss penises and dick pics, and her experiences in photographing this taboo body part.

You’ve talked about receiving dick pics yourself. Were they unsolicited or you’ve asked for them?

Mostly unsolicited but some requested. If we were already in a relationship and comfortable with each other I would ask for it.

I find dick pics are a good way to keep things hot in a long distance relationship.

How do you feel about receiving unsolicited dick pics?

I’ve found it really funny that this was even a move / play to get my attention. I was embarrassed for them. The worst is when a guy sends the same dick pic twice.

Some guys pull out a black Amex [credit card] and pay for dinner. Some guys send a dick pic. At the end of the day, they’re just trying to impress us.

I’d agree that a lot of men are attempting to impress when they send a dick pic, and dick pics can be funny but at the same time…it is often a form of sexual harassment and I know a lot of women (and men) don’t want to be on the receiving end of this kind of aggressive behavior from strangers. So would you agree on the importance of dick pic etiquette and reducing this harassment?

My Dicture Etiquette – Top 6 rules you should follow when taking a picture of your dick:

1. Timing is the most important factor here. A premature dick pic is a sure fire way to ruin a potential relationship. Please don’t send a dick pic before your first date. Once you are comfortable with your partner and have been intimate, a dick pic can be a really sexy way to put a smile on your partner’s face.

2. Lighting – You need sufficient lighting so we can see the cock. A spot light using a lamp is often a good idea. A shine on the tip is an added bonus.

3. Angle – Unless requested, best to keep the balls out of it. Your balls are probably not as mouthwatering as you think they are.

4. Firmness – Go for the full erection. Limp dicks are harder to photograph for a sexy image. If you’re not feeling that turned-on, put your chub away and take your phone out when you’re a bit more into it.

5. Background – Women notice everything! Clean your room or find a clean corner in your place for the photo shoot. If you’re feeling frisky after a large dump, flush the toilet before you start the shoot.

6. Repetition – Do not send the same picture twice. We know you have your go-to but she has that picture, you already sent it. It also makes us question whether it’s actually your dick. Or perhaps you’re sending this to a lot of girls and you can’t keep track. Either way, no bueno.

You’ve said that some guys don’t want to attend your exhibition because there are penises. What do you think it is about looking at penis artwork that makes men uncomfortable? Do you think it’s a reflection of the male homophobia that’s still embedded in our society / culture?

While I do have some straight male fans (confident types with a sense of humor), I find most straight men do get uncomfortable with the idea of looking at another man’s penis. Even if it is art.

I would agree with you in saying it has everything to do with the male homophobia that exists in our society. I believe that’s due to lack of exposure. If I had to pinpoint it, I think it started around the time people covered the statue of David’s dick with a fig leaf.

Quote by Soraya Doolbaz for YNA "I find most straight men do get uncomfortable with the idea of looking at another man's penis."

I find most straight men do get uncomfortable with the idea of looking at another man’s penis.

There’s a very noticeable lack of full-frontal male nudity in the movies and pop culture, while female nudity is commonplace. You’ve said you attribute this to the fact that “Men are controlling the content and that’s what [heterosexual] men want to see.” I think this is a great point. Just a quick Internet search will bring up stats like, “Women made up only 4.4% of directors in the top 100 box office films each year from 2002 to 2012,” according to a 2012 study by Sundance / Women in Film.

That’s an interesting statistic. I assumed this was the case when I made that comment about men controlling the content. I stand by my comment. Perhaps if we had more women behind the scenes there would be more male nudity. Until then, let’s enjoy our Magic Mikes of the world and of course, Dictures. :)

Looking at the dick pictures, I have to wonder…is it all the same penis? Or more than one got dressed up for a photo shoot?

There were 3 different models. In the new series there are 4.

How did these models react to the idea of participating in this project? Did you ask friends or did you find models some other way?

I would always talk about my project in social circles. Female friends volunteered their boyfriends or husbands. They presented it as a gift to him and he couldn’t be happier to be a part of it. His penis was a star for a 3-4 hour period. Who wouldn’t want that? By the way, I only shoot couples. Models have to bring their significant other to the shoot. It makes things a lot easier for everyone involved.

So the dick pictures shoots are 3-4 hours long? And the penis has to be erect to wear the clothes? Or how does that work?

Yes, a typical shoot is 3-4 hours. The model’s partner dresses the penis and I stand on a chair taking the pictures. He does have to be erect to wear the clothes. I think that’s what makes it funnier.

So in the photo shoot, I guess the man or his partner helps him get erect and then maintain the erection? Do the guys have trouble maintaining it? It’s got to be a little bit of work for them!

Regardless of any man’s boner quality, it’s hard to maintain it through laughter. Laughter is the boner’s enemy.

It’s also hard to maintain between costume changes. This is why I only shoot couples. The partner is there to help while I stand on a chair waiting for the best moment to take the picture.

Quote by Soraya Doolbaz for YNA:

“Laughter if the boner’s enemy”

Talking about the erection part made me realize…I think this is the first time I’m seeing an erection being portrayed in a nonsexual context! As naturists we always talk about how nudity can be nonsexual, but I think many don’t realize even erections can be nonsexual. Was it weird to be in this photo shoot situation involving erections where it wasn’t sexual or about sex? (Or was that sexual element still present?) People always think erection = porn. Do you think we need to desexualize the male erection to some extent?

I agree with you in that nudity doesn’t have to be sexual. I don’t think erections have to be either. Although on some level it has to be sexual for the model to maintain it but not for everyone else, as they are looking at the pics and laughing.

This may be hard to gauge, but do you find that your work is even more controversial because the penises are erect vs. flaccid? Or it makes no difference?

I don’t think it makes a difference. Pictures of real penises make people uncomfortable.

Have you had any issues with censorship? Did you have any problem finding a gallery that would host the exhibit because of the subject matter?

It has not been easy. I’ve spent many days and weeks walking around the streets of New York handing out postcards looking for a gallery. I understand my work is a bit out there but it’s pretty funny and artistic.

I’ve had my Facebook account frozen a couple of times. My pictures get taken down from Instagram on a regular basis. I’ve been rejected by multiple printing companies due to my “pornographic” creative. The penis scares the shit out of people lol.

Since you say you’re also trying to end genital shame, have you given thought to the diversity of your penis models? Using circumcised and non, small and large, etc? Part of people’s shame and anxiety seems to come from the fact that they don’t realize how varied human genitals are!

Yes, I shoot all penises. Regardless of the characteristics or size, as long as they show up with a partner. I have costumes of all sizes and I think ALL penises should be celebrated. A couple of my characters in the first shoot are uncut.

They are hard to come by since North America is all about circumcision. Did you know that during the Roman times dicks were everywhere? All those Greek gods had their cock and balls out like it was for sale.

Having a small uncircumcised penis was considered attractive. You can see that on all the statues from that era. Large penises were considered vulgar and unattractive. It wasn’t until the introduction of porn that people became obsessed with penis size.

And what’s this we hear about a dick pic web app?

Yes, the app!! It’s a web app. I didn’t want to have to re-brand it to try and sneak it in to the app store and I didn’t want to leave out Android people so I went with web to make it available to everyone and avoid all the red tape.

The app allows people to take a picture of their penis, add a clothing or accessory item to the photo, re-size it. Then adjust exposure and saturation, add an Instagram filter on it and send it off via text, email or twitter. I’m basically providing the tools for men to take better dick pics. This will all be free.

You had one Dick Picture exhibit so far, right? Was it well-received?

It was well received. People asked me if I would do an annual party. The entertainment was stand-up and sketch comedy. I had live music and a DJ. Lots of phallic food.

You can see the pictures on the events tab of my site. The guests took so many pictures next to my work. There are some hardcore penis fans out there. I was surprised.

Tell us about your big upcoming NY show, “Dick-Tators of History and Friends” at 317 Gallery.

This new series is a parody of famous people we love or hate. There’s some historic dictators and other famous people like Kanye West (“Dongye West”) and Nicki Minaj (“Dicki Minaj”).

I bought some one-of-a-kind collector dolls and threw away the doll and kept the clothes. You will be very impressed with the evolution of my work. Here’s a preview:

And for this Dick Pic exhibit event, I see you’re raising money for the Testicular Cancer Foundation?

With regards to the foundation, I wanted use my art to raise awareness and money for them. I have met quite a few people who have either lost a loved one or survived this disease. Testicular Cancer is a young man’s cancer which effects men age 15-35.

It’s completely curable if detected early. I thought my art was a lighthearted way to create some awareness. [Or as Soraya says in her press release, “I saw the opportunity to use dicks to save balls and I took it.”]
