Dealing With Body Acceptance and Body Image Issues After Pregnancy

(Guest Body Image Blog)

Body Acceptance and Body Image Issues After Pregnancy:

Body Image Issues After Pregnancy – The weight was still there, and it wasn’t going anywhere quickly. I couldn’t look at my naked body after getting out of the shower. I was disgusted with the way I looked. I began to try to lose weight in ways that were completely unhealthy.

I’d lose a little weight and when I quit doing it that way, the weight would just come back. Finally, after talking with some of my friends, I joined a gym.

When I was 20 years old, I was a size 0, weighed 115 pounds and felt great about myself. I thought I had the world in the palm of my hands, I had a great job, I was going to college and then I became pregnant. For the first few months I hardly gained any weight at all and then it came with a vengeance.

Month after month I gained five to ten pounds, which is completely normal for pregnancy, but not for me. At the end of my pregnancy I weighed 160 pounds and was wearing size 6 jeans.

I was hoping that when my son was finally born all the weight would magically disappear and my body would go back to the way it was. Boy was I wrong!

I began to eat healthy several times a day and work out regularly. For the first month, I was down ten pounds and couldn’t have been more happy about it.

The next month I only lost five pounds and was a little disappointed because I’d been working so hard at it, but I kept with it. Eight months after my child was born, I was down to 120 pounds and looked healthier than I did before.

My muscles were strengthened and more fit than I’ve ever been in my life.

Love Your Body – Body Image Issues After Pregnancy

Now, when I step out of the shower I can look at myself and feel proud of everything I’ve accomplished. Body image is something every teenager and adult struggle with at times. The media has spun teens to think that being wider than a pencil is not cool, so teens strive to reach this unrealistic goal in an unhealthy way.

If you’re a teen unhappy with the way you look, lose weight the healthy way. Eat right, work out and you’ll look perfect, if you don’t already look perfect already. Don’t let the media, your “friends” or even your family drag you down with their unrealistic visions of perfection.

We are all beautiful just the way we are but we all need to be healthy too! Body acceptance is great but a healthy body healthy mind attitude is the way to go!

Nudism teaches us to accept people just the way they are. But, at the same time, it is important to strive for a healthy lifestyle… not so we have the perfect looking body, but so that we healthy and happy!
