Review of Beechwood Lodge Nudist Club in the Pocono Mountains, PA
Guest Nudist blog by: Bill Nesc
On Saturday, April Fool’s Day 2017, I went down to Lehighton / Jim Thorpe, PA in the southern Poconos for a concert at Penn’s Peak. While there I stayed overnight at Beechwood Lodge, which is one of three nudist resorts within a 12-mile radius. Of the three, this is the only one that is open year-round.
Beechwood is a rustic club that sits on about 34 acres. Unlike the other two nudist facilities in the area (Sunny Rest and The Woods), it’s smaller, quieter, and laidback. You will not find hundreds of people or alcohol being served on a hot sunny weekend. During the summer, Beechwood draws about 20 – 40 people on a nice weekend.
Getting into Beechwood can be an adventure. To get there, you have to drive on a narrow ruddy dirt road for about 1/8 of a mile. I was thankful that I was driving a Jeep with high ground clearance. Taking a car may scrape the bottom of your car unless you are extra careful.
Once I arrived, I went to the clubhouse to register. There they have a small eatery where you can purchase breakfast and lunch at reasonable prices. Nothing fancy, but decent quality. In the same room is a small lounge with books and magazines to read. After registration, I stayed in one of the 16 motel rooms over the clubhouse. The rooms were spacious, but lacked a TV and had no air conditioning. While I didn’t need the A/C on the day I was there, I figure it would be a bit uncomfortable in the hot summers of the southern Poconos.
If you’re a camper, they also have tent sites as well as RV sites available for overnight stays.
As far as other facilities, Beechwood has an indoor pool and three hot tubs. Two of the hot tubs are next to one another inside a barn that serves as the rec hall, which also features a room with a pool table and an upstairs area for dances (it was closed when I was there).
The indoor pool opens when the weather gets warm in April or early May and is closed up sometime in October. There is no outdoor pool. The indoor facilities are useful for when the weather is uncooperative during the summer, but feels like being in a greenhouse on sunny summer days. There is lots of room on the lawn for sunbathing.
There were about a dozen other people around during my visit. Everyone ranged from middle aged (including me) to seniors. I didn’t see any young nudist adults or families. In the past, I have seen a couple of young adults and families during the summer season.
If you are looking for a large crowd and a party scene, then Beechwood is not for you. If you want a place that is peaceful and laid back, a place where you want to relax and read, a place where you can use an indoor pool on a rainy day, then check out Beechwood Lodge to see if it suits your style.
The club organizes plenty of social events throughout the year. Check out their 2017 calendar below.
