Sunny Rest Nudist Resort or Swingers Campground

Our Nudist Club Tour: Sunny Rest, Bonita, and Juniper Woods!

First Stop On Our Nudist Resort Summer Tour Was: Sunny Rest

This past Memorial Day weekend, Jordan and I took a little road trip into the woods of Pennsylvania and upstate New York to visit a few nudist clubs and resorts!

We camped out each night in our nifty little tent pictured below (that got us thru all the hailing thunderstorms!)

Is Sunny Rest a Nudist Resort or Swingers Campground:

Our first stop was Sunny Rest nudist resort and campground. Now, if you’ve been part of the nudist community for a while, you may have heard of its sexual swingers campground or club reputation.

We spent almost two days at Sunny Rest. We tried out most of the facilities, mingled with some people and had a chat with the owners who were very hospitable.

After our visit we can honestly say, that while it is not truly a naturist resort and while there are a lot of nudists who are also swingers, we’d have no problem recommending it to people – especially if you are looking for a place with very little or no kids around (not because kids aren’t allowed, more so because it is geared towards the more adult nudist crowd).

In fact, as the most modernized Northeast nudist resort I’ve ever been to, Sunny Rest has more to offer than your typical club or resort.

Beyond the basic facilities (an outdoor pool, hot tub, sports) they also have a cute restaurant, an outdoor bar and deck, a nightclub, a separate “conversation pool”, and yoga classes.

Sunny Rest also had the most people there, all crowding their pool deck, bar and social areas so they must be doing something right in terms of getting more business. Arriving late Friday night, we spent a little time at the bar / pool area and then got back to our camp site just in time before a big thunderstorm.

And one thing Sunny Rest nudist resort is certainly not lacking is camping sites, with over 150 acres of land. This gives anyone the choice to find a quiet area or “party area,” and the office staff will gladly guide you on where to set your tent. (Keep in mind that tent walls are paper-thin.)

So on Saturday, I started my first full day with a free morning naked yoga class! This class was about deep breathing and doing a few stretches, which seemed to suit the older crowd that attended. If you’re looking for an actual workout or naked fitness yoga, this isn’t it. But for this class the indoor atmosphere and candle lighting is perfect, and they provide mats and pillows.

I left feeling more relaxed with the faint scent of lavender. *Sidenote: I hear they will also be starting up Zumba classes soon! (a new type of dance / fitness class trend). This is a pretty modern, attractive feature for a nudist resort, especially for young people who like to be active.

That day we also dined in the restaurant twice. Decent food, inexpensive with a large menu varied enough to suit a vegetarian like me. We hung by the pool where “Frederic Douglas” crooned some live music followed by some spirited karaoke later on.

People were friendly, and nobody asked us if we wanted to join their sex party (dang! ;) ) They do group hikes on their trails, which were announced on the poolside intercom. We took ourselves on a little tour to see everything else – a game room with a nice pool table, TV, Terminator 2 pinball machines. Outside, their nude sand volleyball court is a popular feature, which seems to be what draws in a lot of young people from local colleges on tournament weekends. There are also three tennis courts higher up on the property.

At night the scene moves from the poolside bar to the nightclub. Let’s just say this is where Sunny Rest looks a little less “family-oriented.” A lot of women wear dresses made from pieces of tightly-woven string and the like.

But from what we saw that’s as far as it goes, no sex at the nudist resort is allowed in plain view or in a public setting. Some of the nudists are indeed swingers, but I think it’s safe to say it’s all behind closed doors.

Excellent report on Sunnyrest. As I told you when we bumped into each other there, that Sunnyrest is my home away from home. And someone did invite me to their sex party.....(just kidding too---LOL). And, yes, its modern, relaxing, easy-going, and lots of traffic (lots of people). As you said, they must be doing something right. I usually attend Sunnyrest for Memorial Day weekend, Independence Day weekend, and couple more time during the latter stages of the summer. And, as for Juniper Woods, I am a former member of Juniper Woods. I have not been back for a few years, but its good to know that Peggy and Jim are doing well. The last time I heard, Juniper Woods membership was growing. I was a member from 2004-2006, it was a great time too. Anyways, keep up the good work for nudism/naturism. Your reports are priceless :)

Very detailed and informative! Can't wait to hear more about the other resorts you guys go to!

It is nice of you to have this blog on the nudist/naturist resorts. You basically hit the nail on the head. My husband & I have been members for 28 years, & have had many memorable times there. It has grown in many ways. We have traveled to several resorts/camps throughout the country, & there is no place like Sunny Rest. By the way thanks, I'm the Yoga Instructor for the Hatha Yoga Class, glad you enjoyed it. Come on back soon...especially to our Let Your Spirit Soar, Body, Mind & Spirit weekend July 29-31, 2011, check out SRR website for more details....Namaste!
